Admissions

Examinations for admission to the Graduate Program in Zoology occur every six months for the Master's, Doctoral and Direct Doctoral degrees, as governed by the official notification published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo and on the Program's web page.

Applicants must first take a specialized knowledge examination, and those who achieve a passing grade (minimum score 7.0) must present an oral examination based on the dissertation project or thesis submitted at the time of registration (minimum score 7.0 for master's, doctorate and direct doctorate).

The specialized knowledge examination, which entitles the candidate to receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Zoology, is a written test designed to assess the candidate's basic knowledge of zoology and will address concepts and contents related to the origin, evolution and diversification of animals. The Certificate of Proficiency in Zoology is valid for four (4) years (if the applicant has obtained the certificate on a date prior to February 2015 it remains valid for 10 years).

The oral examination assesses (a) the dissertation or thesis project and (b) the candidate's understanding about the project.

The number of vacancies, the documents for registration, the registration period, the dates of the examinations, information on the evaluation criteria, grading, program and recommended bibliography for the specialized knowledge examination, as well as the instructions on the content of the project and evaluation criteria for oral examination are described in the official notifications, which may change from one semester to another as per USP and Program regulations.
